First, he employs good technique— first finding the few areas and knots that need attention and then spending time completely working them out, rather than quickly moving on to another muscle group. Second, he realizes that both the body and mind need to put into a relaxed state. While he works he takes the care to put your mind into a restful state as well with easy conversation. Third, he is pleasingly professional: the appointment started on time and his table was already assembled and laid out when I walked in.
